Motivation is understood as a fundamental factor, both internal and external, in the practice of physical activity and sport. Motivation is essential for achieving objectives, since it is the impulse that allows us to carry out a certain action. There are two types of motivation: intrinsic motivation and extrinsic motivation; The degree of motivation will be reflected in the athlete's performance, which allows us to specify that if an athlete has intrinsic motivation he will be more autonomous, allowing him to carry out his actions voluntarily with the aim of feeling good about himself. But if his motivation is extrinsic, his actions are determined by external agents such as recognition, social status, incentives, family, etc., it should be noted that both motivations will determine success and achievement of objectives. The present work was developed from the bibliographic review of the following databases: Dialnet, Google Academic, Latindex, Scielo, etc. Concluding that motivation is fundamental and determining in the practice of physical and sports activities.
