Abstract

This project was carried out with students from three classrooms in the second year of secondary education at a national school in Lima in 2024. It came about due to the results obtained by the students in the diagnostic test of the Ministry of Education. In view of this, competencies and abilities were identified, showing low performance, and creating mathematical narratives was proposed. The objective of the project is to strengthen the following competencies: “Solve problems of quantity”; “Solve problems of regularity, equivalence, and change”; and “Solve problems of shape, movement, and location” in  students in the second year of secondary education by creating mathematical narratives, due to the fact that this proposal involves reading comprehension in a cross-curricular manner but oriented exclusively towards mathematical texts, since difficulties are not only based on reading comprehension but also on the identification of mathematical relationships that students must build by treating different texts and semiotic representations specific to the area, which the teacher must present in a guided manner. The results obtained allowed us to verify the effectiveness of the proposal since, by constructing mathematical narratives, scaffolded by metacognitive questions, the development of the identified competencies is strengthened thanks to problem posing and subsequent problem solving.
