This paper aims to analyze connections between mathematics and biology when solving a mathematical modeling task mediated by GeoGebra. The data analysis is carried out from a cognitive perspective, and some results show that students’ prior knowledge favors the construction of mental representations, thus strengthening the modeling process of the real situation. In addition, the role played by technology reinforces the stages of mathematical modeling, which allows students to develop competencies to relate the applications of geometric models to the behavior of white blood cells in a wound, providing evidence that the definition of a mathematical object is not enough, but that visualization contributes to its learning
