Abstract

Objective:To determine the relationshipbetween intrinsic motivation and academic performance of students of the Institute of Public Pedagogical Higher Education "Huancavelica". Method:Descriptive study with non-experimental design of transactional correlational type. It was applied the intrinsic motivation test of Ortiz to a sample of 152 students of various specialties of the Institute. The statistical design was ANOVA and correlation coefficient of Pearson, with a confidence level of 95%. Results:Most of the students go beyond the level of good academic performance and show a medium level of intrinsic motivation. Only in the specialty of Computing was found significant differences in academic performance of students with high and low intrinsic motivation (ANOVA; p <0.05). The Pearson correlation coefficient at the level of all specialties was 0.011 (p<0.05). Only in the specialty of Computing, the correlation coefficient of 0.392 was significant (p<0.01). Conclusion:intrinsic motivation and academic performance of students of the Institute of Public Pedagogical Higher Education –Huancavelica relate directly and significantly. This relationship has greater significance in students of the specialty of Computing.
