Characterization of safety in patient care from the perception of the nursing professional

Abstract

Objective. The aim was to determine the difference between the Departmental Hospital and Hospital II EsSALUD Huancavelica in terms of the nursing professional's perception of safety in patient care.

Method. The study was descriptive, non-experimental and with a cross-sectional design. The research participants included nursing professionals (n = 55) considering the election criteria. Data were collected through the survey with appropriate metric properties.

Results. It was found that 81.8% of nursing professionals of the public Hospital-MINSA and 36.4%; those of EsSALUD-Seguro Social in general terms consider that patient safety in the hospital is very good; likewise, 50.0%; and 18.2%; perceive that the activities deployed in the framework of patient safety are acceptable and 9.1% and 4.5%; of EsSALUD-Seguro Social perceive that patient safety is poor and bad.

Conclusion. It was concluded that the nursing staff perceives the deployment of activities in the framework of patient safety in the units producing care services in the hospitals referred to above as acceptable.
