Corruption in the judicial system of Peru

This review article explores the problem of corruption in Peru, detailing its various manifestations and its impacts on society and the country's institutions. Corruption is analyzed as an endemic that especially affects the administration of justice, describing it as the action of offering bribes to obtain personal advantages at the expense of the trust and rights of others. Outstanding cases of corruption in the political and judicial spheres are examined, evidencing its penetration into the three branches of government. The impact of cases such as the Odebrecht scandal is highlighted and the alarming perception of corruption among citizens is pointed out, especially at the municipal level. Furthermore, the involvement of judges, prosecutors and other judicial operators in corrupt acts is revealed, eroding confidence in the administration of justice. The need to investigate the causes and consequences of judicial corruption is discussed to propose effective prevention measures. In conclusion, it is highlighted that corruption represents a significant challenge for the Peruvian State and legal operators are urged to act with integrity in favor of social justice.
