Abstract

The present study was carried out with the purpose of laying the foundations to undertake a program of genetic improvement or conservation of llamas, for this reason the objective was to determine the genetic variability in two populations of llamas in the Huancavelica region. For which, DNA samples from 44 randomly chosen llamas were studied. These samples were processed using a panel of 14 fluorolabeled microsatellite markers, these were subsequently amplified and then separated by capillary electrophoresis with the ABI 3130XL automatic sequencer. A total of 172 alleles were found in the study populations. In the population of the Center for Research and Development of South American Camelids - Lachocc (CIDCS - Lachocc), the number of alleles per locus (Na) was 90 in total, in a range of 3 to 11 alleles, the effective number of alleles ( Ne) was 46.9 in total, with ranges from 1.62 to 5.38; the observed (Ho) and expected (He) heterozygosity with ranges from 0.88 to 0.29 and 0.81 to 0.39, respectively. In the Lircay population, the Na was 82 in total, in a range of 3 to 8 alleles, the Ne was 43.51 in total, with ranges from 1.23 to 5.16; Ho and He with ranges from 0.95 to 0.2 and 0.81 to 0.19, respectively. The average polymorphic information content (PIC) for the two populations was 0.65, with ranges from 0.39 to 0.80. The inbreeding coefficient (Fis) for the CIDCS - Lachocc showed low levels of inbreeding (-0.0075) in the same way for the Lircay population (-0.0145). The Fst values were 0.074 and Fit 0.064, indicating a moderate genetic differentiation. Concluding that there is a moderate genetic variability in these populations.
